What are Ketones?

Normally insulin opens your cell doors and allows the glucose to be used for energy. If there is not enough insulin in your body, you cannot use glucose for energy and then your body begins to burn fat for energy, which causes ketones. Ketones are acids that build up in your blood, if your body does not have enough insulin. Having ketones in your blood can make you very sick and even lead to death.
