The two biggest things to work on is exercise and weight loss. You should aim to get  back to your pre-pregnancy weight and remaining active with a goal of exercise of at least 30 minutes a day, five times per week.

During an 18 year follow-up of 1,700 women who developed gestational diabetes, 259 of them developed type 2 diabetes.

Being pregnant can sometimes puts you in the mindset of “eating for 2.” Nearly half of pregnant women gain too much weight during their pregnancy. It is not a time for reckless abandon; rather here are some guidelines for healthy weight maintenance during pregnancy.

Guidelines for weight gain during pregnacy

  • Normal weight pre-pregnancy – goal for weight gain is 25-35lbs
  • Underweight – 28-40lbs
  • Obese prior to pregnancy – only 11-20 lbs
