Mixing different insulins in the pump By: Anonymous

Can you mix different insulin products in the pump. I mean like long acting and short acting insulin?

In the insulin pump you can use insulin products like regular insulin or rapid acting insulin such as Epidra, Humolog, and Novolog. The insulin pump provides a steady hourly or bi-hourly release of insulin which is very similar to basal insulin. In addition, rapid or regular insulin then can be used as a bolus before meals based on the fingerstick sugar reading before the meal and the amount of carbohydrates in the meal. Since the pump already covers for basal insulin automatically, there is no need to add long-acting insulin into the pump. In addition, long-acting insulins such as Lantus, Levemir, or Toujeo should not be mixed with any other insulin products.
