My new year resolution is to exercise more but I am not sure if I will need to go back to my doctor so my pills will be evaluated. What is your advice
Exercise is a great resolution for the new year! It is important for you to do fingersticks before the exercise and right before the next meal after the exercise. Based on your fingersticks throughout the day and your fingersticks right before and after exercise, your provider will be able to evaluate if you are at risk for low blood sugar levels. Even if you are not at immediate risk for low blood sugar and the doses of your oral medications are not changed, it is important for you to follow the following steps to exercise safely. Drink plenty of fluids and eat a snack consisting of 15-30g of carbohydrate if you exercise a moderate intensity exercise (e.g. jogging) for more than 30 minutes. If you experience weakness, confusion, or any other symptoms related to low blood sugar, please inform your provider.
